ABOUT THE GTHC
For more than 25 years, the Gaston Together Healthcare Commission (GTHC) has endeavored to develop a workable community- wide agenda to help improve the health status of citizens in Gaston County. This work is accomplished through a network of organizations and people involved in healthcare access, funding, distribution and resource allocation. Currently the GTHC focuses its work in three priority areas:
By engaging schools, businesses, and churches the Healthy Gaston initiative seeks to create a “culture of wellness,” improving the vitality of organizations and positively impacting individual health.
A policy/advocacy workgroup focused on reducing obesity through incorporation of the Health in All Policies strategy. In 2017, it merged with Gaston Together Greenways team.
Substance Abuse/ Mental Health Workgroup
During 2016, in response to the opiod abuse crisis, the Gaston Controlled Substance Coalition (GCSC) was formed to assure safe pain management, local treatment for opiod dependence, and community-based education.
